Happy Birthday Bill – From Nashville Ind

2018 km

First of all I want to wish my childhood best friend Bill a wonderful day on his birthday. Bill and I were inseparable as kids but I move away when I was 13 and last saw him when I was 16. Recently we reconnected after 44 years. Have a great one Bill – I will raise a glass to you here in Nashville.

A Morning of Muddy Boots

Muddy Boots Cafe- Nashville

I had breakfast this morning at the Muddy Boot. It is quite the place. The food is good and they specialize in herbal teas and coffee. I parked my bike in a parking lot across the street and the guy there waived the $2 fee as long as I listened to his stories of what it is like there when the bike rally is in town. He was great and he watched my gear for me.

I then went for a ride through the countryside and the State

Jackson Creek Road - Yellow Wood Forest

Forest. It was a nice cool morning to ride.  As I was riding through the Yellow Wood Forest I ended up on this gravel road. It is lucky I stopped to take this picture because just as I did, a gavel truck, pickup and FedEx truck came down the hill. There was only enough room for them – not me. I pulled over as far as I could, given there are no shoulders, and let them pass. The gravel truck should have been a clue. I little ways down the road I came across a grader filling a washout. He eventually backed up to let me by but I had to ride through a mucky loose gravel wash and hence the second muddy boot – running shoe actually. It is ok though about 100 meters down the road the river was flowing over the road so I could wash my tires.

Typical Nashville Shoppe

I returned to Nashville and paid the $2 to park for the day and spent the whole day walking around, visiting the shoppes and eating. I bought a motorcycle t-shirt so now I will have a clean shirt for tomorrow. Tomorrow is laundry day. I skipped over the shirt that says “If you can read this the bitch fell off”. I figured that was not my style and would go over like a lead balloon.

I had lunch in another little cafe listening to a lady yammering on about the local gossip. The other 3 ladies with her looked as bored as I was.

I found a credit card on the sidewalk so I went into the nearest store and asked to use their phone to call the credit card company. They were able to reach some “Kin” of the owner who will get a message to the owner that the card is at the store. My good deed for the day. I left my email so hopefully I will hear if they got it back.

I went into this leather store and spent about an hour talking to Dana the storekeeper. She loves French Lick and filled me in a bit more on its history. She also gave me some advice for my ride tomorrow. It was a nice cool break talking to a wonderfully pleasant lady.

Hey Pat they had some great fringed jackets and cowboy boots – but alas I didn’t buy any. A customer came in and that was the end of our chat – so I said my goodbyes and ventured out into the heat.

In one shoppe there was a glass blower – he was making a christmas ornament. There are hundreds of neat things in the store but I didn’t think I could get them home in one piece.

All the ladies (e.g. Pat, Estelle, Brenda …)  would love this town. The guys would be like a couple of guys I saw sitting outside a baby store. I asked if they were waiting for their ladies and they nodded with a glum look. I just laughed and moved on.

There are a lot of bikes moving through town all the time or parked outside the leather store. I finished the afternoon with a root beer float sitting at an outdoor table watching people.

Tonight it will be dinner alone again – that is the only downside of this trip.

Tomorrow I am heading up towards Indianapolis and stay there until Sunday when I will start my trek home. They have been having bad storms up that way so that might affect my timing. If my butt and back are up to it I might do the Manitoulin Island route. I will see!

Bye for now everyone.

I also hear you have had a BIG BIRTHDAY . . . so hope you enjoyed it!
Be safe, and watch out for the other guy on the road . . or gravel truck!

    Hi Hun!
You are right -that t-shirt would have gone over like several lead balloons.
Sounds like a nice place to shop!

Hummm…. leather fringe outfits and French Lick in the same paragraph conjures up all sorts of visions. Glad to hear that you were able to stop and spend some time poking around. We suspect that is the best way to experience the local cultures. I would definately vote for the Manitoulin route home although the full face mask might be needed to fight off the bugs. We’re enjoying the vicarious tour. D&B
